Head of Jakarta Transportation Department, M Akbar, admitted that indeed public transportation services in the capital city are still not yet optimal. It can be seen from the rampant existence of illegal terminals, drivers not wearing uniforms and IDs, as well as underage drivers.
“After Eid ul Fitr, indeed there are still many public transport drivers act wrongly. That’s why in the nearest future I’ll be coordinating with transportation sub-departments in five municipalities to control those drivers,” he stated, Tuesday (8/26).
City Will Control OmprenganAccording to Akbar, to control underage drivers, it needs a regulation and firm sanction. At this time, his department is drafting that regulation and sanction.
“We’re drafting it now. We hope the regulation could give wary effect to drivers who like to park haphazardly waiting for passengers,” he uttered.
Akbar disclosed that the regulation has points that say public transport drivers would be paid and their recruitment pattern would be selective based on skill and age.
“By adding new policy, I’m sure t would change drivers’ paradigm. So, there would be no more public transport drivers speeding and parking haphazardly,” he said.
Unfortunately, Akbar cannot confirm when the regulation would be run.
“Just wait, we’re still drafting it. We’ll run it when we are done,” he told.
